A Bill to End Male Genital Mutilation in the U.S. |

On Monday, February 23, 2004, MGMbill.org will submit our Male Genital Mutilation bill to each and every member of the House of Representatives and the Senate of the 108th Congress for consideration. It is our hope that by doing so, we will find a sympathetic member who will sponsor and champion our bill.
On the same day, we will also send a California version of the bill to the State Legislature in Sacramento. If Congress fails to act, then perhaps the leaders of California will vote to end male genital mutilation at the state level and set a precedent for the rest of the country.
Very few laws of this magnitude are passed without concerted grass roots efforts to back them up, though, and it is unlikely that either of these bills will pass without your help. If you support the MGM bills on this site, you can help improve their chances of becoming law by doing the following:

Second, e-mail your local House and Senate congressional members along with the president and ask them to sponsor or support the MGM bill on this site. An alternate way to do this is to enter your zip code in the box below and write via Congress.org, where you can e-mail your local U.S. representative, both of your U.S. senators, and the president in a single letter.

Third, if you are a resident of California, e-mail letters of support to your local state assemblymember, senator, and the governor. Or, enter your zip code in the box below to contact all of these state leaders in a single letter using Congress.org.
We also encourage you to voice your support for each MGM bill by calling your congressional and state representatives and their staff, and to send them letters through the mail. To see some letters written by our supporters, please visit the Letters page.
The voices of the many can overcome the voices of the few.
