2009 MGM Bill Submission State Office Guidelines

Join MGMbill.org in January, 2009, when we resubmit our MGM Bill proposals to Congress and state legislatures around the country. If you have access to a personal computer, you can become a temporary MGMbill.org state office by emailing or faxing (via computer) an MGM Bill proposal to every member of your state legislature.

Currently there are MGM Bill proposals available for 43 states. If you live in a state without an MGM Bill proposal, we will write one for you so you can submit it to your legislators. We will also provide you with a suggested cover letter before the bill submission date so you can drop in your name and the name of each lawmaker.

As a temporary state office, you would be responsible for all costs to submit the bill. If your legislators are accessible by regular email, you may not incur any costs at all (since most Internet service providers allow for unlimited free email). But if your legislators use ZIP code restricted webmail forms, you will probably want to fax the bill. Below is a sample cost estimate for faxing an average size state legislature:

Sample Cost Estimate for Faxing 150 legislators
Total pages to fax: 600 pages (150 legislators x 4 pages per legislator)
Cost per page: $0.12 (including mail merge) via jBlast; requires MS Word and MS Excel
Total cost: $72.00  ($0.12 per page x 600 pages)

If some (but not all) of your legislators have email addresses, you may need to do a combination of emailing and faxing.

After you submit the bill proposal, your job as a temporary MGMbill.org state office will be complete and you will have no further obligations. But, you can become a temporary state office for the next MGM Bill submission if you choose to do so.
